The Garmin Compact Reactor 40 Hydraulic Autopilot Starter Pack (010-00705-06) is an ideal entry-level autopilot system for single-engine outboard boats less than 30’ long¹. It takes over the job of holding the wheel to maintain course, especially at moderate to high cruising speeds¹, so you can sit back at the helm and enjoy your time on the water.

This starter pack includes the Compact Reactor 40 CCU, ECU, pump and other components needed to add autopilot to your compatible chartplotter². The system is offered in 3 corepacks, so you can configure it around the features you want and your budget: the starter pack, the starter pack plus a GHC™ 20 marine autopilot control unit, or both the GHC 20 and the Shadow Drive™ attachment.

The advanced 9-axis AHRS gives you more flexible mounting options and greatly reduces heading error, course deviation, rudder movement and power consumption, while keeping the ride comfortable for everyone on board.

Reacts to Conditions

This autopilot reacts to the sea to hold your course. Even when the boat is pitching and rolling, you can be confident it will keep you on your desired heading.

Minimal Commissioning and Calibration

Every autopilot needs commissioning and calibration to work properly. Garmin made this process as fast and easy as possible so you can get on the water sooner.

Full Integration with Garmin Electronics

With compatible networked Garmin electronics, you can control the Compact Reactor 40 from wherever you are on the boat. Beyond holding course in virtually all weather and wind conditions, it can smoothly run a variety of preprogrammed trolling and search patterns. With BlueChart g2 Vision HD charts (sold separately), you also gain optional features such as Auto Guidance³, which automatically steers GPS paths (requires LakeVü HD Ultra maps or BlueChart® g2 Vision® HD charts).

Optional Shadow Drive Technology

The Compact Reactor 40 supports optional patented Shadow Drive technology, so you stay in control even when the autopilot is engaged. Turn the wheel and Shadow Drive automatically disengages the autopilot so you can maneuver freely; hold a steady course and it automatically re-engages.

Connect to Networked Devices

Operate the Compact Reactor 40 directly from your compatible Garmin chartplotter¹ screen or with up to 3 GHC helm control units. The GHC communicates with the autopilot over your NMEA 2000® network, so heading data is easily shared with other devices. This enables MARPA and chart overlay when connected to a Garmin radar and chartplotter. An optional handheld wireless remote control is also available.

¹Not recommended for fishing or applications that require holding heading while trolling or at low speeds. For applications that require precise heading control while trolling or at low speeds, Garmin's higher-performance Reactor 40 models are recommended.
