For a new outboard, the first service should be completed after the initial 20 hours of operation. This is one of the most important services your engine will receive, as it removes the initial break-in wear particles and helps ensure everything is operating properly.

After the 20-hour service, Yamaha recommends servicing your outboard every 100 hours of operation or once a year—whichever comes first. Even if you don't reach 100 hours, annual maintenance is important to help protect your engine, maintain reliability, and keep it performing at its best.
